
(1/29/2019) - The winter season's first major snowfall left all of Mid-Michigan looking like a marshmallow.
The National Weather Service received snowfall reports from all over the region. Some of the reports from Monday evening are not the final numbers, because a little bit of snow fell overnight.
As expected, the most snow fell north and west of Saginaw Bay and lesser amounts fell in the southern portion of Mid-Michigan.
Here is a sampling of reports:
-- 12.4 inches in East Tawas at 7 a.m.
-- 12.3 inches in Alpena at 7 a.m.
-- 11 inches in West Branch at 7 a.m.
-- 10 inches in Harbor Beach at 8:30 p.m.
-- 9.2 inches in Houghton Lake at 7 a.m.
-- 9 inches in Bay Port at 7 p.m.
-- 9 inches in Bad Axe at 7:30 a.m.
-- 8.8 inches in Saginaw at 9:36 p.m.
-- 8.3 inches in Auburn at 6:30 a.m.
-- 8 inches in Cass City at 6:35 a.m.
-- 8 inches in Lapeer at 7:30 a.m.
-- 7.4 inches in Midland at 7 p.m.
-- 7.1 inches eight miles northwest of Saginaw at 7:30 a.m.
-- 6.7 inches in Burton at 7 a.m.
-- 6.4 inches at Bishop International Airport in Flint at 7 a.m.
-- 6 inches in Lexington at 7:41 a.m.
-- 5.7 inches in Elba at 7:35 p.m.
-- 5.4 inches at the National Weather Service office in White Lake at 7 a.m.
-- 5 inches in Livingston County near Fenton at 8 a.m.
-- 4.5 inches in Durand at 8 a.m.
-- 4 inches at Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus at 7 a.m.
Another inch or two of snow is possible around Mid-Michigan on Tuesday from widely scattered snow showers. Parts of West Michigan are getting significant lake effect snow and some of those squalls may occasionally venture over to the east side of the state.
