(01/27/19) - Three people were rescued out on Saginaw Bay Saturday. Photos taken from Air Station Detroit's helicopter show the U.S. Coast Guard, Bay County and Tuscola County first responders making the rescue. According to U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit, two adults and a 13-year-old were in danger of falling through the ice. The ice had signs of cracking with open water surrounding them. No one was hurt. However, USCG is reminding people that it is dangerous to be on the ice and hypothermia and shock can set in in just minutes in icy water. USCG says you should wear warm clothing that is waterproof and reflective, have a means of communication, let family or friends know where you will be going and for how long, bring ice picks or screw drivers to dig into the ice to help pull yourself out of the water and be cautious of all ice.
